At Bark University, our lead trainer will guide you and your pup to progress through the four levels of dog training. These levels are Fetchman (level 1), Barkmore (level 2), Chewnior (level 3), and Senfur (level 4).Each level introduces new skills, with the exception of Senfur, to your dog while continuing to practice previous skills with more distractions. Although each level has specific skill requirements which must be met prior to moving on to the next level, you and your dog progress through the levels at your own pace. Move through all four levels or choose to stay at a lower level – the choice is yours! It’s a new twist on dog training and allows busy pet parents the flexibility they need to really teach their dog.
Completing all levels of training will grant your pup the CGC certification!
CGC Certification
The CGC (Canine Good Citizen) is a 10-skill test that teaches good manners to dogs and responsible dog ownership to their owners.
- Some apartments only allow dogs that have CGC certification.
- First steps to becoming a therapy dog.
- Easier adapting to new environments.
- Enhances banned dog breeds’ credibility as harmless.
fetchman (Level 1)
As a Fetchman, your dog will primarily focus on:
- Recap on orientation.
- Self soothing – getting your dog to calm down.
- Name and cue – getting attention and focus.
- Sit at side – for loose leash walking.
- Jumping – correcting greeting behavior.
- Release cue – replaces “stay” verbal cue.
- Leave it – ignoring distractions.
Barkmore (Level 2)
As a Barkmore, your dog will primarily focus on:
- Self soothing – building on this skill (level 2).
- Loose leash walking.
- Leave it – ignoring distractions.
- Drop it.
- Place – introduces negative cues.
- Recall and release cues.
- Cooperative care.
- Door manners and relaxing.
Chewnior (Level 3)
As a Chewnior, your dog will primarily focus on:
- Loose leash walking – building on this skill (level 3).
- Leave it – building on this skill (level 3).
- Self soothing – building on this skill (level 3).
- Down/sit – with added distance and distractions to test.
- CGC practice – accepting a friendly. stranger, sitting, appearance and grooming, loose leash, walking through a crowd, sit and down on cue (staying in place), coming when called, reaction to other dogs, reaction to distractions, and supervised separation.
Senfur (Level 4)
When you reach Senfur, you will be taking the CGC test in hopes of receiving your CGC Certification! Everything in the previous levels will be put to the test! Congratulations for graduating Bark University!
