Halloween Treats For Pets that are Scary Good

You have your pet’s costume settled, but have you thought about the treats? There will be plenty of candy everywhere you look this weekend, but it is important to remember that Halloween candy is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN for your furry friends. Candies get stuck in fur and throats, candy wrappers can cause problems too, and don’t even get us started on the dangers of chocolate. 

Your furry friends deserve a tasty, healthy treat this Halloween weekend too! We’ve put together a list of treats (not tricks) for you to try below.

Pumpkin-Peanut Pieces

Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup canned 100% pumpkin
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350℉.
  2. Mix together the flour, eggs, pumpkin, peanut butter, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  3. Add water as needed to help make the dough workable.
  4. Roll the doll into a ½-inch thick roll and cut it into ½-in pieces.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until hard. (about 40 minutes)

Pumpkin Spice Puppuccinos

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup unsweetened coconut milk (can substitute with almond milk or goat milk)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup pure pumpkin

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender.
  2. Blend until well mixed.
  3. Pour into small serving cups or ice cube tray for a frozen version

Skull & Crossbones Frozen Bites

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup plain non-fat yogurt
  • 1-2 cups kale leaves
  • ⅓ cup blueberries

Instructions:

  1. Blend together ½ cup of yogurt and blueberries.
  2. Pour the mixture into molds.
  3. Blend together the remaining yogurt and kale.
  4. Pour that mixture into molds.
  5. Freeze for 2-3 hours.

Apple Crunch Cupcakes

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water
  • ¼ cups apple sauce
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tbsp honey
  • 4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 cup chopped apples (1 apple)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350℉.
  2. In a large bowl mix the water, apple sauce, vanilla, egg, and honey together with a whisk. 
  3. Combine whole wheat flour and baking powder and stir into wet ingredients.
  4. Fold in chopped apples.
  5. Spoon mixture into greased muffin tins.
  6. Bake for 35 minutes and let it cool.
